Weightless

Taken in Sant Cugat del Valles, near Barcelona. I used to live here when I was seven or eight years old. Wandering around, I didn’t really recognise much of the neighbourhood until we found my old house.

I am of course surprised by Derek and Heather’s departure from JPG magazine. It’s clear that Derek made some mistakes and placed too much trust in the those he was entrusting his idea to, but the fact remains that Paul seems to be doing an incredible disservice to the people that founded and built the magazine. The online photography community sees JPG as its baby and doubtless won’t appreciate being casually written out of the picture. Quite apart from whether Derek was foolish in allowing Paul to have the power to make such a decision, it just doesn’t make any sense from a business perspective: rewriting the magazine’s history to dismiss the contribution of the community will alienate a large portion of JPG’s original audience and contributor base.

I never got any of my submissions to the early issues published, but that doesn’t mean I’ve not contributed in some way to the magazine. Suffice to say I’ll be waiting to see where 8020 takes this thing before I consider submitting any more work.
