A little late, but I’m finally dragging Weightless into 2007. The final four months of last year were a little light on updates around here, and I’m determined to see that this year isn’t filled with every other entry beginning, ‘Sorry I haven’t posted in a while’.
The second half of 2006 was pretty hectic for me. Since finishing my degree, I’ve looked for a job, found a job (doing web development at an Oxford publishing firm), worked as a photographer/designer at the student union over summer, done work experience on Q Magazine’s photo desk, built a new site for Oxide Radio (partly in my spare time while starting my new full-time job), produced some 7” single artwork for This Town Needs Guns, been to Barcelona (with Jen) and Las Vegas (with work), and redeveloped this site using Ruby on Rails.
Without wanting to give you all a huge lecture on programming, I would like to say how much I like Rails. It’s made me start using and appreciating object-oriented code properly, and it feels so much nicer to use than PHP, which is where all my previous development experience lies. Ruby’s a nicer language, and Rails gives your application some proper structure – it feels like a piece of software rather than just a bunch of pages. And, I can write code that almost resembles English sentences. I’ve been using Rails for my latest work project, and what I’ve got done in a week would probably have taken a month in PHP, no kidding.
Anyway, on with the photos. The above was shot in Caesars Palace in Vegas. More from there later this week.
