Barrier down
I was photographing a big animal rights rally in Oxford yesterday and found myself caught up in the crowd as they pushed the barriers down and tried to break past the police. The march was against Oxford University’s currently-under-construction animal testing lab, which you can make out in the background of this shot. I’ll try to get more shots online and write a bit more about it later.

Good job old boy. Notice the copper on the left filming you – you and I are both on their records now as potential breachers of the peace! On the other hand, I was kneeling down placidly fiddling with a collection of lenses, not contributing to general uproar by pushing down barriers… I bet you got right into it didn’t you, ‘filthy swine’ and all that…

This is a brilliant shot. I can almost feel the tension and stress that you must have felt being stuck there. It gives a sense of clostrophobia. The luminous jackets do it. One of the cops even has a camera. Did you smile?
